The 2022 GMC Sierra 1500 is a full-size truck. Some of the enhancements that the 2022 model has undergone compared to the previous year’s edition include an updated infotainment system, more torque, and new premium trims.
The base engine on the 2022 GMC Sierra 1500 is a turbo-4 2.7-liter engine that delivers 310 hp and torque of 430 lb-ft. It can tow up to 9,400 lb on the rear-wheel drive configuration. There’s an optional turbocharged inline-6 diesel 3.0-liter engine that delivers 277 hp and a torque of 460 lb-ft. With the extended cab configuration, this engine can tow up to 13,200 lb.
A 5.3-liter V-8 engine is available as well, which delivers 355 hp and a torque of 383 lb-ft. A higher capacity 6.2-liter V-8 is also available and delivers 420 hp and a torque of 460 lb-ft. While the base engine is paired with an 8-speed automatic transmission, all the other options are paired with a 10-speed automatic transmission.
The interiors of the 2022 GMC Sierra 1500 have also undergone a significant overhaul compared to the 2021 model year. Interior surfaces are softer and feel more comfortable. On the higher trims, there’s a certain degree of luxury due to the contrast stitching, suede headliner, and perforated leather seats. The 2022 GMC Sierra 1500’s proportions are large, which allows for comfortable seating for five adults. There are several smart storage options as well, such as the dual glove box, rear under-seat storage, and compartmentalized door pockets.
On the majority of the trims, you’ll find a 13.4″ touchscreen with standard infotainment features such as Android Auto and Apple CarPlay integration. Available features include wireless phone charging, a Bose sound system, and additional power points.
There’s plenty on offer on the safety front as well. Standard safety features include rear cross-traffic alert, blind-spot monitoring, lane-keeping assist, lane-departure warning, automated emergency braking, and forward-collision warning. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) gave the 2022 GMC Sierra 1500 4 out of 5 stars in its crash test results.
